Dear First Pres,

I don’t know about you, but I’m experiencing a bit of a weird tension this season. On the one hand, I am excited and energized (and appropriately nervous) about our Christmas Eve services and all the people that God will bring into our Sanctuary to hear the truth of Jesus. I’m praying; I’m inviting; I’m preparing; and I’m trusting that God will use it all to bring glory unto Himself. It’s going to be a wonderful night. I encourage you to join me in praying and inviting.
But on the other hand, I’m navigating a pretty significant pastoral staff transition. We had a wonderful celebration for Pastor Lana on Sunday. Thank you for blessing her with your presence and appreciation. I can honestly say that I love you even more after watching you love Lana as you did. But we’re not done. This coming Sunday will be an open house reception for Pastor Chris in the Fellowship Hall. There won’t be any program, just an informal opportunity for you to personally say thanks to Chris and Lisa for their ministry among us. Of course, you are welcome to bring cards or gifts of appreciation, as well. The reception will be held during the Education Hour and there will be no other normal adult education classes. I encourage everyone to come, not only to show your love for Chris and Lisa, but also to connect with one another.
It’s a bit strange for me to navigate both of these at the same time. It’s been an emotional roller coaster. But as sure as I am that God sent the One and Only Son, the Eternal Word of God, to be born into this world in the little town of Bethlehem some 2000 years ago - as sure as I am about that, I am sure that He is with us, FPC, in this season of transition. Just as sure as I am that the Son was sent into the world with a plan for salvation, I am sure that God has a plan for FPC to grow in the grace of Christ. Just as sure as I am that Jesus is the King of all kings, I am sure that we can trust in Him. Just as sure as I am that Jesus is coming again, I am sure that the best is yet to come for us, His people.
So, Christmas Eve will mark the end of Chris and Lana’s called pastoral ministry among us, but it will be the birth of something new that God is doing in and through them. Just as sure as I am about that, I am also sure that the same is true for our congregation. As Jesus said to Jairus (Mark 5:36) I say to you, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

Blessings,
Jeremy

P.S. I will be giving a clear opportunity for people to respond to the Gospel on Tuesday night. Please join me in praying that God stirs hearts to respond.
