Dear First Pres,

I just returned from a very exciting meeting. It was a meeting for pastors and church leaders to be informed about the upcoming Fresno CityFest (check it out at www.fresnocityfest.org) with evangelist Luis Palau. Today, the official dates were announced for the CityFest. It will be April 1-2, 2017 at the Save Mart Center. There will be many events and work leading up to that first weekend in April, but it was exciting to know that the dates have been made official. Just so you know the impact that this kind of campaign can have on a city, when Portland did their campaign with the Luis Palau Association about 35,000 decisions were made to follow Christ. Can you imagine something like that happening in our Valley?  It is possible through Christ. I will be telling you more about Fresno CityFest in the months ahead, but please add this to your prayer list. Pray that God will use the Church of Fresno/Clovis to bring thousands to Jesus.

I’m also excited to report a few important decisions from our Session about Student Ministry. Craig Blodgett’s last day on our staff will be June 12. By the way, there will be a reception for Craig and his family on June 5 during the Education Hour. Please plan to come by and give thanks to Craig for his faithfulness to Christ and the students of FPC Fresno. If you’d like to give any gift of appreciation to Craig, you can give it directly to him on that day. Now, back to the Session: we decided to hire a Temporary High School Ministry Coordinator for the summer months. This person will be on point to coordinate our high school ministry volunteer team and our incoming summer staffers (who start on June 12). We believe this will ensure that our ministry to and with high school students will continue to thrive while we look for the next long term staff person. The second decision is that we will looking to hire a High School Ministry Director. This is a slight change from our current structure in which Craig is our Student Ministry Director who oversees both high school and junior high ministries. In the new structure, Meagan, our Assistant Director of Junior High Ministries and the new Director of High School Ministries will work as peers and report to me.

Finally, don’t forget that this Sunday, during worship, is the very special presentation of God’s Not Dead from our two children’s ministry choirs. I’m confident that you will be blessed and encouraged as the kids lead us in worship. It’ll be a great Sunday to bring a friend because the good news about Jesus is made clear in the musical, and I’ll work to do the same in my short sermon afterward.

Blessings,
