Dear First Pres,

Last night my kids returned from their first trip to Disneyland.  It was something we promised to do when we told them we were moving to California.  They waited patiently (kind of) for two years until we finally came through on our promise.  But instead of saying, “It’s about time,” they are saying, “Thank you.”

This past Sunday we were reminded that God always keeps His promises; He is faithful.  Even when the timing doesn't seem right to us, or it doesn't fit our schedule of promise fulfillment, we can count on God to be faithful.  I’m reminded of God’s promise to Abram and Sarai that He would give them offspring, but it was some 25 years later when Isaac was born.  God doesn't work according to our schedule, but He is always faithful to His Word.

So, what is your attitude toward God’s faithfulness?  Are you saying, “It’s about time, God,” while tapping your foot and crossing your arms?  Or are you simply giving thanks to God for His faithfulness?  During this season of Thanksgiving, I encourage you to practice the latter.  At some point in the next few days simply take some time to write down the things for which you can thank God. Then, in the coming weeks, spend a few moments every day going over that list.  The scripture commands us, “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1).  Beloved, give thanks to God; He is always faithful.

This coming Sunday marks the beginning of Advent when we celebrate the coming of the Lord.  I’ll be starting a new sermon series called Joy to the World. I can’t wait to examine this good news of great joy together.

     Blessings & Happy Thanksgiving,
