Dear First Pres,
On Tuesday I gathered with pastors from all over Fresno County for lunch at Peoples Church. We were gathering to begin a discernment process together. All of us want the Gospel of Jesus Christ to advance in our city, the question is about how to best steward our resources toward that effort.
One idea, the one we're discerning together, is to invite the Luis Palau Association to come and lead a festival in our region. The festival would be more than a single event. The whole process would include a series of events and projects scheduled throughout the year leading up to the festival. There would be training for church leaders, collaborative service projects throughout the city, and special events to prepare the collective Church. As many of you already know, it would be quite the effort - one that could reap tremendous fruit for the Kingdom.
I'm sharing this with you because I'd love for you to pray that God will lead us to the right decision. I believe that nearly all the pastors of the city have tremendous respect for the Luis Palau association (including me). So, the decision isn't about whether they do good work. The decision is about timing, resources, and strategic focus. Please be praying that God gives the pastors of our community clarity and unity in this decision. Also, if you have any insights that you'd like to share with me on this, please don't hesitate to send me an email.
If we decided to proceed, I would hope that FPC Fresno would be all in. That, of course, would mean it would impact us financially, programmatically, and personally in the months leading up to the festival. So, again, please join me in praying that God will lead us, including our Session, in this decision, and that He indeed will advance the Good News in our city.
