Dear First Pres,

“Timely.” That’s what I heard from several folks this week about my message this past Sunday. And things only seemed to get more stirred up this week with the first debate between our two most prominent candidates for President. So, I also believe the message is timely. Like Jesus, right now, we need to avoid the trappings of political simplicity, complacency, and primacy. Because of Christ, we are free to position ourselves with humility and love, and hope in our constant pursuit of His Kingdom’s righteousness and justice. So, may it be true of us.

But most importantly, let’s obey Jesus, and “give to God what is God’s.”  As you struggle with today’s political climate, smokey air, ongoing pandemic, violence in our city, and whatever else is troubling you, may you give yourself fully to the Lord. He is what our world needs most right now.

In my quiet time with the Lord this morning I meditated on Job 19:21-27 where Job says, “I know that my Redeemer lives … I will see him with my own eyes.” Job was in the midst of tremendous heartache and pain and loss. But in the midst of that, he reminded himself and whoever would listen of his hope in God, the Redeemer. May you also be reminded today, even if you have to say it to yourself, that your Redeemer lives. He is on the throne. His Kingdom is coming. We have living hope - confident expectation in the character and promises of God - through Christ. So, I pray it is evident in me and you today.

Blessings,

Pastor Jeremy
