Dear First Pres,

Wow! What a night!  Last night we launched the first of our WednesdayNights@FPC series, and it was a lot of fun.  As you might expect, there were a few bumps along the way. It was a little loud in the Fellowship Hall with all those folks in there for dinner. So, we’re talking about ways to address that next time. The men’s group was too big for the Hub, so we had to move into the Sanctuary. The projector wasn’t working for the Children’s Ministry, so they had to improvise. There were some bumps, but it was still a great launch. I am confident that the next nine weeks are going to be wonderful.  Even if you weren’t there last night, you are welcome to come next time. I hope you will.

Of course, it was also a bit somber. News spread quickly amongst the church family about the sudden death of Jim Fletcher. He and Rodger Glaspey were involved in a plane crash in Alaska on Tuesday morning. Rodger survived with some moderate injuries, but Jim did not. Please be praying for the Fletchers, the Glaspeys and our whole church family as we grieve Jim’s death. Of course, we grieve with hope in our Risen Christ. As sure as we are in Christ’s resurrection, we can be sure of Jim’s resurrection through faith in Christ. Also, yesterday morning, Homer Acosta passed away. Homer, like Jim, had a wonderful impact on so many of us.

So, beloved, we have three important memorial services coming up in the life of the church. Pastor Ernie Bradley’s service is this Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m. Homer Acosta’s service will be Friday, September 25 at 11:00 a.m.  And Jim Fletcher’s service will be Saturday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m.

As I write this letter, I’m mindful of these words from Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians. May they minister to you today.

Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him … Therefore encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

Be encourage in the Lord today; He is our hope.

Blessings,
