Dear First Pres,

This morning at the Men’s Breakfast we heard from Doug Kulungu. Doug is the leader of Kulungu for Congo which is all about empowering Congo for a better future through Jesus Christ. But, most recently, Doug is also a congressman for the Democratic Republic of Congo. His father was voted into the position and Doug was simply listed as his assistant. But in the wake of his father’s death, Doug is taking his father’s seat.

One of the things I love about hearing Doug’s story is that it always reminds me of something Doug often says to me. God truly is at work, and we can trust Him to work in and through our lives. In fact, we should expect it.

On Sunday I talked about the authority of Jesus. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus by the Father. That means He is able to accomplish more than we could ever ask or imagine. But this morning I found myself asking again, “Am I expecting God to work in me and through me today?” I encourage you to consider the same thing. Are you expecting to meet with God in your prayers today? Are you expecting the Holy Spirit to put a divine appointment on your calendar? Are you expecting God to answer your prayers? Are you expecting to see evidence of His grace? Are you expecting Jesus to use you for His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven? And for us as a congregation, do we expect God to be faithful to our congregation in this season of transition? Do we expect God to provide for Pastor Lana and Pastor Chris as they transition out of leadership of FPC? Do we expect God to make His will known to our Session as they discern our next steps?

These are really important questions. When our answer is no, we have reason to panic, fear, and over-function. When our answer is yes, we can walk by faith with humble confidence.
God truly is at work, and we can trust Him to work in and through our lives. May God help us to believe it and then, expect it.

Blessings,
Jeremy

P.S. Thanks to all the folks who moved forward in the Sanctuary on Sunday. By filling in some of the empty spots left by our youth ministry retreat to Santa Cruz, you encouraged our worship together.
