Be With Me: Experiencing Jesus in Prayer

An Intentional Journey to Deepen Your Relationship with the Divine

Week 12: Be With Me -  Contending for Revival

Preparation:

Song: “Choose Life” by Simon Khorolskiy

To record this day against you, I call heaven. To record this day against you, I call earth. That I have set before you life and death, Blessing and cursing.

Therefore, choose life, That both you and your descendants may live.

That you may love the Lord, your God, For He is your life and the length of your days.

Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14

What humility is needed to bolster your prayer life this week?

Personal Practice:

Prayer of Obedience:  I recently had an incredibly powerful experience when I started praying “Lord, who do you want me to see today?” I held out the question as I traveled internationally because humanity had turned into a blur of strangers. It was as if God took out a yellow highlighter and started tuning my sight to “see” specific people. An elderly widow to whom I should give the cherries that I had just purchased at the market. A man walking back from the cemetery of whom I should greet with eye contact and a warm smile, who in return gave me a rose. An old high-school connection on Facebook who was reaching out to connect and I chose to lean into a new friendship and invite her to study Scripture together. When you “see” the person God is highlighting to you – ask what your response is and then resolve to do it – no matter what!!!  It will require generosity, time, and boldness.

Group Practice:

Praying for Revival:

“Revival is the visitation of God which brings to life Christians who have been sleeping and restores a deep sense of God's near presence and holiness. Thence springs a vivid sense of sin and a profound exercise of heart in repentance, praise, and love, with an evangelistic outflow.”

-JI Packer

First, quiet your hearts and ask for the Spirit to come invade your prayer time! Cry out for capacity to see our sins and repent for areas in which FPC has been “sleeping.”

Spend time together uttering prayers for a deeper sense of God’s presence: more, more, more – awaken our hearts, our spirits, come Lord Jesus! Pray for FPC to be filled with a longing for revival and be characterized with a spirit of flexibility, willingness to change our plans at a moment’s notice in alignment with His will, for abundant joy at the goodness of the Gospel! Pray for the privilege of Philip with the Ethiopian in Acts 7 this week- one opportunity and your quick obedience to share “...the good news about Jesus.”
