Every year our Ignite Jr. High ministry puts on a parent appreciation lunch in the spring. The parents are served a meal by their students and have the opportunity to hear what God is doing in the Ignite. We thought you might enjoy hearing from parents and students what this even meant to them.

This was our fifth Parent Appreciation Lunch and we are just as thankful and impressed as we were the first time. This has become one of our highlights of having a Jr. High student at FPC. As we sat around the fellowship hall enjoying another amazing lunch (one we didn't have to prep, cook, or clean up  after...which is a special gift all by itself) it struck us how truly blessed we are to be part of a community of believers. We are so immensely grateful that we are not alone in this most important and difficult task of raising children. We were so affirmed as we listened to the kids share their special messages of love, gratitude, and appreciation. We see the fruit of our labors and know that it is not by our efforts, but through our Father in Heaven who gives us strength and endurance. We are grateful to our fellow believers who have poured their love into the lives of our children throughout the years. We are thankful for this wonderful Jr. High ministry and know that our children are growing in their relationship with Christ.

We are incredibly thankful to Meagan and the Jr. High advisors for their continued witness and connection with our children, including forcing encouraging them to stand up in front of a group and say nice things about their parents.

The Parent Appreciation Lunch was a beautiful time of bonding between and within families. Students were able to be vulnerable and give back to their parents who have done so much for them. I loved having one-on-one time with my parents and seeing the dynamic of the other parents and junior highers'  relationships. I was super grateful for the amazing meal and time serving our parents and church community in return for all they do for us.

It can be easy to forget to be grateful for our parents, who do so much for us. I think that it is great that we have this event to remind us to show our parents how much we love and appreciate everything they do for us. I enjoyed seeing other students express their love for their parents. It can be scary to get up in front of all these people but I’m glad that we had the opportunity to share.
