Dear First Pres,

Have you seen the yellow envelopes in the Sanctuary pew racks? The white envelopes are for folks who are giving to our church’s general fund (from which all our normal ministry expenses are covered) or other specific offerings. But do you know what the yellow envelopes are for? If you said “Deacons” you’re right! And, if you didn’t know, now you do.

The Deacons are ordained officers of our congregation who are charged with leading us in the ministries of compassion and care. One of the ways they do that is through the administration of our Deacon Benevolence Fund. This is a fund that is used to help those in the midst of financial difficulties or particular financial need. We don’t publicize how it’s used, but I can tell you that many people within our congregation and beyond have been blessed by it.

The Deacon Benevolence Fund is not a budgeted fund. In other words, it is only supported by our special offerings. This is where the yellow envelopes come in. On any given Sunday you can put a special offering in one of those yellow envelopes and designate it to this particular fund. You can also, of course, do this same thing through our online giving portal.

Here’s the deal: the fund needs some replenishing. We haven’t mentioned it in quite a while because many of you are giving regularly to it and the needs have been met. But, right now there are a few particular needs in the congregation that outweigh our existing balance.

So, as you are in the midst of prayerfully considering your financial pledge for 2024 to our general fund (see details below), would you also consider making a one-time contribution to our Deacon Benevolence Fund? You can either give with cash or check using the yellow envelopes in our pew racks or you can give ONLINE (and use the dropdown menu to choose “Deacon Benevolence Fund”).

Blessings,

Jeremy
