Dear First Pres,

It’s Holy Week. I pray that you experience the Lord’s presence afresh for the next four days. Today,  Maundy Thursday, we remember the gathering of Jesus and His disciples in the upper room when He showed them the full extent of His love. He gave them a new command that night, “Love one another” (John 13:34) and instituted the Lord’s Supper as a sign and seal of God’s new covenant. Tomorrow we remember Good Friday when Jesus hung on the cross and gave His life as a ransom for many. It was the darkness that enlightened and a death that opened, followed by the centurion’s declaration that welcomed, as H. Spees so powerfully proclaimed on Sunday. Then, Holy Saturday, a sabbath day for Jesus’ disciples to let the reality of His death sink in. And finally, Resurrection Day, when God raised Jesus in forever victory over sin and death.

I truly encourage you to take some extra time in these four days to simply be still before the Lord and consider what it is we remember and celebrate this week. As the old hymn says so elegantly, “Man of sorrows, what a name, for the Son of God, who came ruined sinners to reclaim. Hallelujah! What a Savior.”

In addition to the details for this weekend’s worship services, I encourage you to look through the other details below about what is happening in the life of FPC Fresno. Every Thursday this email is chock-full of information about upcoming events, ways to connect, and opportunities to serve.

Blessings,

Jeremy Vaccaro
